In Ghazipur, a total of three candidates had filed their nominations for the post of District Panchayat President. Independent candidate Rekha Bhatt withdrew her nomination on Tuesday. Now this contest is between Sapna Singh of BJP and Kusumlata of SP. Both the parties are engaged in political arithmetic. For the last 25 years, the seat of the district panchayat has been occupied by the Samajwadi Party.
Sapna Singh, who won the independent election from Saidpur first seat, was declared the candidate of the District Panchayat President along with joining the BJP on 24th, just before the date of nomination. On June 26, in the midst of political turmoil, Sapna Singh from BJP and Kusumlata from SP as well as independent candidate Rekha Bhatt had filed nominations in the Collectorate.
Scrutiny of nomination papers found all the papers to be valid. On Tuesday, a meeting of leaders was held at the SP office, Lohia Bhawan. After this Rekha Bhatt withdrew her nomination. It is being told that the SP had enrolled Rekha Bhatt as a dummy candidate. There was an apprehension in the socialist camp that the ruling BJP might not get the nomination of the SP candidate rejected by finding some flaw or under conspiracy.
Direct contest between SP-BJP
Now that Rekha Bhatt has withdrawn her nomination, in such a situation, the contest remains between the BJP and the SP candidate. Meanwhile, experts keeping a close watch on politics say that till now the socialist camp, which has been sluggish about these elections, has infused new energy after meeting SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday. Now the SP leaders have also started making the results of these elections in favor of the party. Akhilesh Yadav made an emotional appeal to the SP leaders and the winning district panchayat members of the party to win this election.
