Lucknow:Hitesh Chandra Awasthi, who was the DGP of Uttar Pradesh, has retired today on Wednesday. ADG law and order Prashant Kumar has been made acting DGP in his place. Prashant Kumar will take over the responsibilities of DGP till the new DGP is posted.
At the same time, the picture of the next DGP of the state has become almost clear. 1987 batch IPS Mukul Goyal can be the next DGP of the state. Mukul Goyal also met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Tuesday evening.
On the other hand, in a meeting held in the Union Public Service Commission on Tuesday, the names of three senior most IPS officers of UP were decided and sent to the Uttar Pradesh government as a panel.
First in the order of seniority is 1986 batch IPS Nasir Kamal who is DG in NICSF at the centre. At number two is 1987 batch IPS Mukul Goyal who is posted as ADG in BSF. At number three is RP Singh of 1987 batch, who is in the post of DG EOW.
Sources say that a panel of these three officers has been sent to the Uttar Pradesh government for the new DGP.
On Tuesday evening, Mukul Goyal suddenly reached Lucknow and met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath late in the evening. It is expected that the name of Mukul Goel as DGP will be announced soon. Mukul Goyal has held the post of ADG Law and Order during the Samajwadi Party regime.
