Assembly elections are going to be held in Punjab next year. The infighting in the Punjab Congress ahead of the elections is not taking its name to calm down. The top leadership is making constant efforts to end the tussle between Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. Meanwhile, news has come that Navjot Singh Sidhu will meet Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in New Delhi on Tuesday.
A few days ago, the Congress formed a committee to resolve the differences between Amarinder Singh and the leaders dissatisfied with him. This committee has met all the prominent leaders of Punjab. Along with this, he has also had a long conversation with CM Amarinder Singh. The committee is headed by senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge. Apart from Kharge, the 3-member Congress committee also includes Harish Rawat and former MP JP Agarwal.
Top leadership worried over the turmoil in the party
For the Congress, the infighting in the party in Punjab remains a matter of concern. Elections are to be held in the state next year and Punjab is one of the few states which are in the hands of Congress. Rahul Gandhi has also met Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla and Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra in this regard.
Long running dispute between Captain and Sidhu
Navjot Sidhu and Captain Amarinder Singh have been in dispute for a long time. For some time now, Sidhu has been speaking openly against Capt. Hoardings were recently put up in Amarinder’s home district Patiala in support of Navjot Sidhu, pointing fingers at Amarinder and demanding action against those guilty of sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib.
After Captain, Sidhu, Bajwa faction also came to the fore
After Sidhu, another faction is being formed in Punjab in the form of Pratap Singh Bajwa. Although the Congress Rajya Sabha MP has denied this, but has given a message to the Congress High Command in gestures. Along with this, Sidhu has also been advised. He said that Sidhu should get an important position, but it takes time to reach the top position. They should be given a role, but the party loyalists who have been here for 40 to 45 years should also be taken care of.
