The Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid in Delhi, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to get the Jama Masjid repaired. In fact, stones had fallen from the slab of the minaret of the mosque in Delhi, after which he has written a letter to the Prime Minister and has appealed to the Archaeological Survey of India to get it repaired soon. Now it remains to be seen what will be the response from the Prime Minister’s Office.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari has said that many stones of the mosque are in a dilapidated condition and often fall. Due to the strong storm on Friday, red sandstone slabs had fallen from the minaret of the mosque, there was no accident due to the closure of the mosque due to the lockdown. The floor of the mosque has also been damaged due to the stone falling of the minaret.

Imam Bukhari said in the letter, “Due to the fall of these stones, the strength of the stones around them has weakened and needs to be repaired immediately to avoid any accident. He has said that the stones at some places in the mosque are very bad which have been prevented from falling by tying them with ropes. He has said in the letter that the mosque is in dire need of repair.

According to a report, the conservation work of the minarets of Jama Masjid has not been done for almost 50 years. According to Bukhari, the mosque does not have a permanent budget for repairs. A letter has to be written for the repair work in the mosque, after which the budget estimate is decided and then the budget is released.

He has said that in the past also such repair work has been done by the Archaeological Survey of India. According to the letter of Imam Bukhari, the Archaeological Survey of India has been carrying out repair work in the mosque since 1956. Although the responsibility of maintaining the mosque falls under the Delhi Waqf Board. Imam Bukhari has appealed to Prime Minister Modi through a letter to instruct the ASI to inspect and start its necessary repairs.

At the same time, no response has come from the Prime Minister in this matter. The Jama Masjid, located near the Red Fort of Delhi, was built by Shah Jahan in 1656 AD. In Jama Masjid, 25,000 people can offer Namaz simultaneously. Jama Masjid is the second largest mosque in Asia.
