Ahead of next year’s five-state assembly elections, the Congress has changed its organization, preferring two Muslim leaders. Imran Pratapgarhi, a famous poet and candidate in the Lok Sabha elections from Moradabad, has been made the National President of the Minorities Department of Congress, while Imran Masood, the former MLA, has been made the National Secretary and in-charge of Delhi.
Congress has appointed Imran Pratapgarhi in his place, removing the chairman of the minority department Nadeem Javed. Imran Pratapgarhi is a famous poet, he joined Congress even before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Imran was fielded by Congress from Moradabad Lok Sabha by giving ticket but he had to face defeat.
Imran Pratapgarhi has also been made a star campaigner in the assembly elections of many states. He was in the role of star campaigner in the recently held Assam elections. Imran is known for his Tanzia poetry and he is popular among the youth because of his poetry.
On the other hand, senior UP Congress leader and former MLA Imran Masood has been made in-charge of Delhi. Imran Masood hails from Saharanpur and is also known for his outspokenness. Imran has also been an MLA from Muzaffarabad Vidhan Sabha (Behat Vidhan Sabha) in 2007. However, after this he had to face defeat in 2012, 2017 assembly elections and 2014, 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Presently Imran Masood is a member of Consultative Committee in UP Congress.
Imran Pratapgarhi hails from Pratapgarh district of UP. Imran, who studied at Allahabad University, was also honored with Yash Bharti Award in 2016 by the then Akhilesh government. Congress hopes that the party will get the benefit of Imran Pratapgarhi’s image and Muslim face in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
