Barabanki: Contempt of court petition against SDM in mosque demolition case

A contempt of court petition has been filed against SDM Divyanshu Patel in the case of demolition of 100-year-old Garib Nawaz Masjid at Ramsnehi Ghat in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. On May 17, the Tehsil administration demolished the mosque with the claim that it was an illegal construction. While the mosque management is expressing its legal right over the land. With the argument that all its documents are available.
Syed Farooq Ahmed has filed this petition in the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court. In fact, the Masjid Committee had moved the Allahabad High Court against the order to vacate the mosque as illegal. And on 24 April, the Supreme Court stayed the order regarding the demolition of the mosque. Despite this, the administration demolished the mosque.

Regarding this development, Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board chairman Zufar Farooqui also condemned this action of the administration. He had said that the mosque is 100 years old, which is valid and it is also registered in the Waqf Board.
The matter of demolition of the mosque became very hot, which remained in the headlines of national and international media. Especially because when there was a stay of the High Court, why did the administration show such haste in action.?

There were strong reactions from the Muslim society across the country on the demolition of the mosque. And the administration was criticized. A delegation led by Maulana Shahabuddin Rajvi from Dargah Aala Hazrat had reached Ramsanehi Ghat. Who has submitted the complete report to the dargah chief Maulana Subhani Mian.

According to Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, the mosque committee has all the papers. All the consolidations that have taken place since independence have mosques. There are land papers, this is also recorded in Waqf. Therefore, the action of the administration is unilateral and it is directly contempt of court.
Garib Nawaz Masjid is in the compound of Ramsnehi Ghat tehsil complex. In March this year, the government announced that religious structures built on public roads after 2011 would be demolished in 6 months. A few days later, the administration issued a notice regarding the Garib Nawaz Masjid and asked for proof. And in this episode, action was taken to demolish the mosque.

In this entire controversy, the demand for action against SDM Divyanshu Patel is also arising. Divyanshu Patel is a 2017 batch IAS officer.
