New Delhi: Three military personnel have been held on charges of molestation and attempt to abduct a minor girl in Bandipora district. The accused had tried to lure a nine year old girl in Chewa area of the northern Kashmir district.
A local news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) quoting unnamed officials reported that the three persons who were held on 10 February this month are military troopers.
”The accused Military soldiers have been recognized as Subedar Harbachan Singh, Naik Amit Tahkor, and Hawaldar Manzoor Ahmad. All of the three are under police detention,” the agency quoted sources saying.
The girl’s family have expressed their happiness over the measure taken by the J&K Police. Speaking to The Kashmir Walla, the father of the girl stated that the police is investigating the matter. ”I’m glad that my daughter is ok. I’m a daily wage laborer and can’t follow up on what’s going on. She was returning from her class when the trio, as per eyewitnesses, attempted to take her away,” he said.
He also added that as per the eyewitnesses the trio was in a Maruti Alto car and trying to take her inside the car. ” they were carrying three different number plates in the car,” he said.
Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti also took to Twitter to share her opinion on the development. She alleged that the victim’s family was being pressurised to withdraw the FIR.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Bandipora, Rahul Malik confirmed to the news agency that three arrests have been made in this regard, ”We’ve not received any complaint so far about reports of pressurizing,” he stated, adding that nobody is being pressured from any quarter as further investigations into the matter are underway.
