Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has accused the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh of rigging the election of district panchayat presidents. He claimed on Monday that the SP would win 350 seats in the next assembly elections. Akhilesh, in a statement here, alleged that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has gone to the extreme in rigging the election of district panchayat presidents in the conceit of power. Their undemocratic conduct also poses a threat to the constitutional institutions.
The SP president said, ‘Corcisely converting their defeat in the election of district panchayat members into victory by deceit and fraud, Chief Minister Yogi and BJP may get their applause immediately, but in the assembly elections to be held in the state early next year, they will face them. Will have to eat SP will come in the upcoming elections by winning 350 seats in the assembly and BJP will be forced to sit in the opposition by reducing to a few seats. He alleged that BJP leaders at various places in the state, with the help of the administration, hijacked the mandate and prevented Samajwadi Party candidates and proposers from enrolling by force.
‘SP candidate placed under house arrest in Balrampur’
The SP President said that it is sad that the officials remained mute spectators instead of curbing those obstructing the election process. The Election Commission also remained helpless and the Raj Bhavan has also observed silence. The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh alleged that the BJP, despised by the public court, forcibly took away the nomination papers of the Samajwadi Party candidate to register his victory in Balrampur and snatched the nomination papers, strangling democracy, in Lalitpur also for the post of District Panchayat President. The Samajwadi Party candidate was not allowed to file nomination.
Allegations of willful rejection of papers
Yadav also alleged that in several districts including Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Basti, Ghaziabad and Bareilly, BJP leaders with the help of the administration forcibly stopped the nomination of SP candidates for the post of district panchayat president and deliberately rejected the nomination papers.
